Nandan Coffee is a well known cafe in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, a neighbourhood known for its art galleries, heritage buildings and creative energy. The cafe built its identity around that setting, a space for coffee, conversation and community in the middle of the city's cultural quarter. The brand strategy and identity were already established by the time I came on, my role was leading the design direction and translating that strategy into the physical, everyday details of the cafe experience.

Designing Inside An Existing Story

Design is all about Details

At Ode Studio, I led the design direction for Nandan Coffee's visual merchandise, everything that shapes how a customer experiences the brand inside the space itself. This meant taking an already defined identity and extending it consistently across cups, packaging, menus, signage and other in-cafe collateral. Beyond the day to day cafe experience, we also designed menus and other touchpoint for events the brand was part of, including Art Mumbai and weddings, adapting the same identity to different settings without losing what made it feel like Nandan Coffee.

From my laptop to nandan Coffee

Working on Nandan Coffee is what pulled me into F&B design, seeing how much thought sits behind a space that feels effortless to walk into. I handled the process end to end, client communication, margins, print medium, the physical detail of how a menu flips in someone's hands. Beyond the cafe's everyday collateral, the strategy of each product at the cafe and its presence being strategically placed was also something I thoroughly enjoyed.

It's still one of the best feelings, walking into Nandan Coffee and seeing that work out in the world.
